About Tiago Genoveze Photography
Based in São Paulo, Brazil, Tiago Lucio Miguel Genoveze was born in Queens, New York on December 6, 1986. His parents, as well as the rest of his family – except for one brother – are all Brazilian. Growing up in several different countries because of his father's work, Tiago developed a benign identity complex and easily retractable roots, which is just a way of saying that he learned to be adaptable.
Besides refining an established interest in storytelling, the most important thing Tiago acquired at Boston University – where he studied literature, photojournalism, and Italian – was the aspiration to become as pragmatic as he was ambitious. Tiago wanted to tell stories with his pictures, so he put his abilities to the test. As a result, the greatest challenges he faced were the ones he set for himself, the outcomes of which can be seen on his work regarding aging, immigration, and homelessness.
In the beginning of 2010 Tiago moved to Solentiname, Nicaragua, a remote 36-island archipelago, with a few donated cameras and the intention of introducing photography to the islands' youth. After one year as a volunteer in Solentiname, Tiago reached more than 150 children and teenagers who took roughly 64,000 pictures, the best of which have been exhibited across Nicaragua in three different locations.
